Fourfold 24

Fourfold 24 is a calm exact-arithmetic puzzle: combine four number tiles exactly once with +, -, x, and / until one value equals 24. Daily serves a deterministic four-puzzle Quartet, while Practice offers difficulty-selectable replay without countdown pressure.

How to play

Four number tiles from 1 to 9 start on the board. Tap a number, choose +, -, x or /, then tap a second number: both are replaced by their exact result. Repeat until every original tile has been used once and the last value is exactly 24. Example with 1, 1, 1 and 8: add 1 + 1 to get 2, add 1 to get 3, then multiply 3 x 8. Daily opens straight into today's four puzzles; Practice lets you pick a difficulty.

Tips for this game

  • Start from the factor pairs of 24, such as 3 x 8, 4 x 6, and 2 x 12, and ask which two tiles can build one side while the other two build the other.
  • The first tile you tap is the left operand, so 8 - 3 and 3 - 8 are different moves. Check the order before choosing the second number.
  • When whole numbers fail, try a fraction. The hand 1, 3, 4, 6 only works that way: 3 / 4 = 3/4, then 1 - 3/4 = 1/4, then 6 / 1/4 = 24.

Common questions

Can every puzzle be solved?

Yes. Of the 495 possible four-number hands from 1 to 9, 404 are solvable and only those are served. Daily never needs a fraction; the seven hands that do appear only in Expert Practice.

What is the Daily Quartet?

Each UTC date has four puzzles in rising order: Warmup, Build, Twist, and Challenge. The Daily streak counts a date only after all four are finished, and an Assisted solve still counts.

What happens if I use a hint?

Nudge, First step, and Solution never play a move for you, but any hint marks that puzzle Assisted. It keeps your streak but does not replace a clean personal best. Undo and Reset are not hints.

Is there a timer, and is my progress saved?

There is no countdown. Only active solving time is tracked, pausing while the tab is hidden, and progress stays in your browser. A shared Daily result shows completion marks, time, and streak, never the numbers or answers.
